Welcome to Lucid: Shotgun Storytelling. I created this simple blog as a place to share a small, rules light, universal system based on the chock-full-of-awesome Lady Blackbird by John Harper.

A few months ago, I got the hankerin’ for some RPG goodness, but I decided I was tired of reading novel-length books that required nights of study to fully grasp. So, I went looking for some rules-light systems to quench my hunger. I happened upon The Mighty Atom, John Harper’s blog. There I found Lady Blackbird. I loved the way the game handled characters in such a simple and eloquent way. It opened the world of indie-style roleplaying to me and inspired me to create the Lucid System. In some respects, I’ve had to simplify the system to make it universal, but I think I was fairly successful.

Without further ado, here is the PDF for the Lucid System

Technically, it’s in its beta stages and is largely untested. I’d love to hear your feedback!

Here are some things I’m working on…

  • Cleaning up the formatting to make it easier to read
  • Rewording some things so they flow a bit better
  • Considering adding more art just for eye-candy
  • Adding some sample characters, Traits and Tags, Qualities, and maybe a one-shot adventure to this site
  • Getting your feedback!
